Atlanta Green Networking

Document Actions

So you're interested in what's going on in "green" in Atlanta? ifPeople's been in green on a local and national scale for a decade so here's a quick overview of our favorite resources.

Green Business

Green business has grown a lot in the last few years, but the movement is still generally dispersed and not unified. Nonetheless, some leading resources locally include:
  • Green Chamber of the South: A membership organization that provides networking, education, and benefits to businesses in the region. The Green Chamber has partnerships with organizations around the state, including Gwinnett Chamber, Technology Association of Georgia, Building Owners and Managers of Atlanta. Events include:
    • Networking events: well attended, fun, and pure networking.
    • Green Wednesdays: A set lunch at a local restaurant and a local speaker that happens the first Wednesday of the month. Also a well attended event.
  • Georgia Green Loans: offering small loans for businesses to green their operations (or for operating cash for green businesses).
  • GreenBusiness Works EXPO: This conference has high quality content and is gaining momentum locally. Generally takes place in the fall.

Green Building

Atlanta is a national leader in green building and the local industry is vibrant with activity. Hot spots include:

  • Southface: A local nonprofit that's been providing sustainability and design education and services for over 25 years. Events to check out include:
    • Sustainable Atlanta Roundtable (SART): Breakfast networking and talk that happens the first Friday of the month
    • GreenPrints: Annual conference in Atlanta that typically happens in March.
  • USGBC Local Chapter: Green building professional group. Event highlights include:
    • Green Scene: a networking event that frequently gets over 200 people and happens the second Tuesday of the month.

Green Consumer / Lifestyle Events

Green events that are consumer oriented in Atlanta aren't nearly as good as they are in some places (like where Green Festivals live), but they have steadily gotten better over the years. Here are some events you can find locally:
  • Enviro Expo: An event similar to Go Green but organized by locals. Takes place in the Fall.
  • Green Drinks: A monthly (usually) gathering of folks who think about, work in, or are interested in anything green/environmental. Usually includes free beer.
