Sustainable Business Day in Georgia: renewed commitment and 2006 perspectives
For the third consecutive year, Sustainable Business Day will bring together government officials, congressmen and Georgian businesses committed to sustainable practices. ifPeople will once again attend the event to be held at the Georgia Capitol on Wednesday, January 25 from 8:30 am to 1 pm and join the over 15 innovative businesses that contribute to both the states economic growth and its environmental protection.
Following a successful
second edition,
the third edition of this event aimed at raising awareness about
responsible business practices among
policy-makers and the community at large promises to deliver sound
political
decisions. Pat Gardner, member of the Committee on Natural Resources
and
Environment, and Jeff Mullis, Chair of the Senate Economic Development
Committee, will introduce resolutions in the House of Representatives
and the Senate, respectively, supporting innovative businesses as
crucial contributors
to the preservation of natural resources and the states economic
prosperity.
Sustainable Business
Partners, a resource center for sustainable business involving companies that
apply environmental protection criteria and good business practices while
operating profitably, joins GA Department of Natural Resource's Pollution
Prevention Assistance Division and Inspiring
Futures
in
convening this year´s event. This 2006 edition will be attended by
Georgian
companies devoted to sustainable food provision, green design building,
clean energies, recycling and environmental friendly technological
solutions, among other
fields of activity.
ifPeople´s participation
Tirza Hollenhorst
and Chris Johnson from ifPeople
will be again taking part in the event, conceived as an essential forum to
share experiences, advocate for legislation in favor of sustainable initiatives
and re-examine typical beliefs about how businesses can contribute to the
community. IfPeople holds the view that responsible sustainable companies build
capital for the community at least at three levels: economic, environmental and
social. Without disregarding the basic economic benefit of business, they also
contribute to their employees´ quality of life of employees, the preservation
of local ecosystems and the well-being of the community at large. ifPeople provides
consulting services and management assistance for building sustainable
enterprises.
