At ifPeople, we are delighted to see the growth of initiatives towards carbon neutrality around the world. Being a carbon neutral company, we celebrate innovative approaches to climate change. This time, we are featuring three recent events that provide us with great optimism for the years to come, including the first carbon neutral publishing company, the “greening” of the recent winter Olympics, and a campaign launched on the anniversary of Kyoto.

The greenest winter games

The Italian city of Torino is currently hosting the greenest Olympic Winter Games ever.  In line with the Kyoto protocol, the organizers of the event developed the HEritage Climate TORino (HECTOR) project, which aims at implementing forestry, energy efficiency and renewable energy schemes both at home and abroad to make the games as carbon neutral as possible.

The world event, supported by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), will be able to offset the estimated 100,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide that will be generated during the 16 days of competitions. To this end, a number of environment-friendly measures were implemented, ranging from the installation of using solar panels in the Olympic village to the selection of good and service suppliers on the basis of the ecological quality of their products. Ecotone: environmental principles put into practice

Ecotone Publishing, LLC, a well-known company in the American publishing industry that specializes in the fields of green architecture and design, has recently announced that it will offset all its carbon dioxide emissions as from 2005. In order to so, Ecotone purchased 40 tons of carbon offsets from The Climate Trust and an additional 10 tons from the Solar Electric Light Fund. This will counterbalance the company`s pollutant emissions produced in 2005. This is a step in the fight against global warning and sets a standard in the industry. Read More
