The fourth annual Plone Conference will be held October 25-27, 2006 at the Seattle Center Northwest Rooms in Seattle, Washington USA. The host organization this year is ONE/Northwest, in collaboration with the Seattle and Portland Plone communities. This year, as in the past three editions: New Orleans in 2003 and Vienna in 2004 and 2005, the conference is aimed at promoting open source technologies and spreading the use of Plone.

Activities will cover technical and non-technical topics, intended both for Plone experts (site administrators, Plone consultants and core Plone developers) and for people who are new to this technology. The exact session themes are yet to be confirmed as the call for proposals will remain open till August 6th. If you are interested in proposing and leading a session, see: http://plone.org/events/conferences/seattle- 2006/call-for-proposals

In addition to the 3-day conference portion of the event, which will consist in talks, tutorials and workshops on the past, present and future of Plone, there will likely be 1-2 day training sessions before the conference, and a 2-day sprint afterwards. Also, social events such as dinners, meetings and shows are usual around these gatherings. Early bird registration (US$250) will be available until August 25th. Afterwards, registration will be $300. You can register here or visit the conference Website.

Plone is a leading Open Source technology for Web content management used by non-profit organizations (e.g. Oxfam America), large companies (Nokia,Lufthansa and eBay, among others), government institutions and universities (see Plone sites). Plone is an important part of ifPeople's Web technologies: it has been used to build Web sites and  intranets, collaboration areas, and custom software.  In addition, ifPeople has been widely involved in the efforts towards marketing Plone and  promoting this powerful Plone technology. To this end, ifPeople sponsored a course on Plone and Zope in 2005 and has recently participatied in the production of a major resource for Plone users: the Plone Application Programming Interface (API). This guide, which provides a convenient way for developers to manipulate Plone, its content, users, and other objects using scripts, is aimed to make more end-user documentation available and is currently available in both English and Spanish.
