Client Information: Extranet upgrade and login help
In December, we upgraded the ifPeople Client Extranet to the latest version of Plone in our efforts to improve our interactive space and take advantage of new tools in our internal work. The new system is available for your use, though you will need to make a short detour to your browser's cookies before passing "Go". Read on for a step-by-step guide to doing that and more on the new version of Plone.
Extranet's New Plone (Login Instructions)
For nearly three years, ifPeople has leveraged a Plone-based system as an area for collaboration with clients as well as our internationally-distributed team. This space, aka the Extranet, has leveraged the interactive features and fine-grained security controls of Plone to create a space where our team works with the client's participation in carrying out custom web site and software projects. Over the years, the broader community around the Free/Open Source Plone system continued to fuel the software's development. "Plone, to me," says ifPeople cofounder Christopher Johnson, "is an expression of the shared passions and collective contributions of good people guided by a strong commitment to best practices, human-friendly and accessible technology, and flexible solutions." Plone has fostered an international movement of developers, users, companies, organizations, universities, and governments to take control of their technology by choosing Free/Open Source Software (which doesn't mean a sacrifice, since Plone can handle enterprise challenges ellegantly). ifPeople fosters the growth of the Plone developer community in South America's Southern Cone through training developers as part of FairSource.
"We at ifPeople continue to be impressed with the commitment and talent of the Plone community," says Tirza Hollenhorst, ifPeople's other cofounder. We are glad to be able to bring the latest products of the community to our clients, both through our projects and now through our extranet.
The extranet now uses Plone 2.5.1, which was released in October 2006. This release comes after Plone 2.1, which make significant performance and feature improvements to Plone. The latest evolution, however, is more about the underlying infrastructure.
