Plone News Roundup
Another round of highlights from the Plone community, this time covering a new book, website, accolades for Plone, and World Plone Day.
New plone.org
This has been an impressive time in the Plone community. First of all, if you haven't noticed, Plone's website got a major facelift! The new design is a fresh look and makes it easier for the user to get around, understand Plone, and have a unified experience across the many areas related to Plone (bug tracker, documentation, marketing, etc). Congratulations to everyone who helped make this happen!
Book on Theming Published
Another great piece of news is yet another new book is out! This is the first book dedicated to theming Plone sites and is written by the very talented Veda Williams at One/Northwest. You'll find more on the book (and early ordering discount!) at Packt Publishing.
World Plone Day
Also, April 22 is World Plone Day! This is a day for international attention to Plone. To learn more about WPD, see our article on World Plone Day.
Recent Accolades for Plone
Recent accolades for Plone include both the Open Source CMS comparison research published by Idealware and a review in CMSWire that cited Plone as a leader in multi-site (or sub-site) solutions. CMSWire said: CMSWire:
"Plone certainly seems the more versatile option overall with its inherent ability to talk to nearly any database and the ability to install it on nearly any environment."
Google Summer of Code
Plone Foundation is once again a registered mentor for the Google Summer of Code. That means a number of students will be paid - by Google - to contribute to Plone this summer! The proposals are still being finalized, and it looks like over a dozen great applications thus far, including refactoring parts of the GetPaid ecommerce framework.
