Last month, the Plone Community celebrated World Plone Day 2008. ifPeople client Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) and the Toronto Plone Users Group joined Plone enthusiasts around the globe by hosting a successful half-day event to promote Plone. DOT welcomed representatives from business, academia, and government to their Toronto office to share the benefits of using Plone as a Content Management System (CMS).

We are pleased to see that our clients are so happy with Plone that they are promoting it as a solution to others in their communities.

Digital Opportunity Trust is a Canadian NGO that connects people with technology around the world.  The organization trains individuals working in social and economic development to use the information and communications technologies they need.  To date they have prepared over 500 locally-based interns to work on practical applications, who in turn, have contributed to the efforts of more than 27,000 people leveraging technology for good.

To work toward its mission to share technology globally, Digital Opportunity Trust sought a CMS that could handle widely dispersed and diverse teams that collaborated regularly on projects.  The organization also needed a way to house and share knowledge gained along with way with high turnover groups of volunteers and staff.

Management identified Plone as the most viable choice for their evolving needs because of its extensibility, security and workflow settings, and its ability to handle international needs by supporting translations.  Overall, DOT has been impressed with Plone's ability to meet and adapt to the organization's needs as they have arisen.  "Plone is awesome!" boasts Hugh Ranalli, DOT's Director, Global Technology.
