Founded in 2006 by Martin Luther King III, Realizing the Dream (old site) seeks to use the practice of nonviolence to redress poverty, build community, and foster peace around the world. So far, the organization has launched and participated in a variety of socially beneficial programs including the American Poverty Project. The purpose of this project is to highlight the challenges and opportunities associated with poverty in the U.S. by focusing on the challenges of 50 specific communities. In addition to giving community members the opportunity to share their experiences with poverty to the larger public, the project will eventually train and empower citizens to confront the problems of poverty through the tactics used by MLK, Jr.
ifPeople is working with Realizing the Dream to give the organization a dynamic Plone website capable of updating events, sharing news items, and soliciting donations. With these tools, we hope that Realizing the Dream will have the power to improve their online outreach and inspire more people to promote and use nonviolence as a solution to global poverty.
The new site is currently in development. It will be launched in late October.
