Attempt to Geocode
Use the business address for trying to get the business location
This functionality provides business' owners and administrators with the possibility of use the business' address information for setting the business location on the map. It uses the business' address, state and zip code. All other information will be ignored for this process (including the apt. field).
In the business listing page, clicking the Attempt to geocode link will start the process and once finished there will be a message at top indicating if the geocode success or not.
Once a business is successfully geocoded there wont be possible to geocode it again. For changing business location after a successful geocode use the map: Change your location on the map.
Note: Some common reasons that make the geocoding fail are:
- The Address field contains suite/apt information. Such information needs to be put only in the Apt field.
- The Address field has the street name, but leaves out "St," "Rd," "Blvd," etc. (Leaving these off sometimes works, but often does not.)
However this process can fail even if your address is correct, if your address is not found in the geocoder server.
Note: for world wide directories the geocoding will only work for businesses located in U.S.
