Detailed explanation of the business registration process.

Warning: be careful, the names of fields may vary, since they can be set in each directory. You can see this screenshoot for identifying where to look for some fields. Also, have in mind that in some special cases, directories can directly omit some field of the registration form.

From the directory home page, click on the register link. There you will start the registration process. Below, a short description of what each field means. Be aware that fields marked in the form with a (usually orange) star means that the field is required, and can not be left empty (in this documentation those fields are in bold text):

Business Sign Up Step 1 Membership type

Select a business' membership type and click next (if you are not sure on what membership type to choose, you can view a detailed description on each one following the link at the bottom of the page).

Note: you directory administrator may customized the registration process omiting membership type selection. Don't worry about this. If this is the case, there would be only the following 2 steps (and they will have changed the numeration).

Business Sign Up Step 2 Person information

Information related with person's name and title

  • Salutation: you can choose one of Dr., Mr., Mrs., Ms.
  • First Name: Required field.
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name: Required field.
  • Profession/Position in the company (title): Required field.

After filling that info click next.

Next form presents the fields to fill in three separated groups:

Business Sign Up Step 3 Company information

Information related with the company being registered.

  • Company's Name: This is the name of the business and will be used as the title for the business listing. Also is a searchable field. Required field.
  • Description of Business: this is a piece of text describing the business' activities, which will be used in searchs. You can include details about your business/organization such as hours, special offers, descriptions of business practices, etc. Directory administrator can put a limit to the length of this field, if so, you will se a character counter next to the input text. Also have in mind that this text will be used in searchs.
  • Industry: list of possible possible company's industries. Beside each industry you will find a checkbox. Mark it for select an industry. You can select as many industries as you want. If you see [+] next to some industry name, clicking on it you will see an extra list of sub-industries (below the one with the [+] symbol). Note: some administrators may had customized the form to opening all sub-industries by default, so you will see this symbol instead [-].
  • Product/Service: Select the product/services your organization provides. To select multiple descriptions, hold down the ctrl key (pc) or apple key (mac). Required field.
  • Product/Service Description: Please enter a description of your business/organization that lists the services and/or products your offer. This is what will be displayed under your business/organization name on the search results page. Is a required field.
  • Web Site: include the url of your organization's website. Do not include the protocol prefix (http:// or https://)
  • User information

    Information related with the system user. It will be used for login to the site, for updating your listing information once your request gets approved.

    • User Name: must be unique, and is a required field. This field is going to be used for the site as user name, and as part of the url for showing the business listing information. As is going yo be used for the business url, must be valid URL characters, i.e. ASCII letters or digits, _, ~, ,, . or space. Moreover, they must not begin with _ .
    • Password: must have 6 characters at least. We recommend you to use non dictionary words. Anyways, you will be able to change it later. Required field.
    • Password Again: just re type the password. Required field.
    • Phone: any string containing ten digits will be accepted, and these digits will be the phone attribute content (i.e. all non digit characters will be stripped out). For world wide directories any character string will be accepted. Required field.
    • Fax: same than phone, but this is not a required field.
    • e-mail: must be a valid e-mail address. It will be used for the system and system admin's to contact you. Required field.
    Location information

    The information will be used to locate you.

    • Address: Street name and number. Do not leave out of street name "St," "Rd," "Blvd,". Required field.
    • Apt.: suite/apt. information.
    • City: type the city where you live. Required field.
    • State/Province: select the state/province where you live. For world wide directories any character string will be accepted. Required field.
    • Zip Code/Postal Code: if you live in the U.S. you must type a five digits. If you are in Canada, it must be in a format like ANA NAN, where an A means a letter and an N means a digit. For world wide directories any character string will be accepted. Required field.
    • Country: Only on world wide directories. Selecting US some other fields (like State) will have the same restrictions than in a US directory.

    After filling the form, click on submit and the system will show you if some errors occur, or a page telling you that the registration request was made. After that, once the directory administrators approve your request, you will receive an email telling you that your registration is finished.
