Simple Search
How to find what you are looking for.
The directory provide the ability to search for companies listed in it.
To do so, from the application index you can click on Search for businesses link that will lead you to a search form. In the form you'll be able to search by company's name, description, industry, product service name, or by distance entering a zipcode in a valid format. A valid zipcode is (for US directories) such in 5 digit form.
For asking for all businesses you must left blank both fields. If some text is entered in Keywords or business name field, the result will display the list of businesses who's Company Name, description, industry name, or product service name, contains the entered text. If a valid zipcode is entered in the Zip Code field, the results will be ordered according to distance to that point, and the results will show how far each result is from the given point, otherwise the results will be ordered alphabetically.
For each searchable customized field that the network had set there will be a checkbox for filtering results according to this criteria.
If the directory administrators had configured it, you will also see:
- Industry/Keyword drop-down list.
- Country drop-down list (only for world wide directories).
Selecting an industry/keyword or country will filter the results for businesses that have that industry/keyword or country.
If more than one field is filled the search results will be businesses that match all filled fields.
The search Results will be paged in sets to 20 businesses maximum (or the maximun that the site configured). At the bottom, a minimal search form is included containing last data entered, so the user can repeat its search adjusting the keywords used to search.
The results will never include individuals, or pending businesses.
If your directory is part of a network of directories, in the result page there would be a button to repeat the search across all networks: Global Search (see Connect to other directories setup).
Note: please refer to ZCatalog Search Syntax in order to learn how to improve your searchs.
